Headaches can strike at any time – without an invite or warning-they can often affect your mood, energy levels, and general wellbeing. Headaches can increase due to intake of caffeine, general dehydration, and oftentimes bad posture.

Your Poor posture stress is placed on your muscles in your back and neck.

Headaches can be the result of low electrolyte levels, high blood pressure, and even just increased sugar levels in the blood; drinking enough water and minerals facilitates the healthy maintenance of your optimum function of your muscles, tissues, and organs, blood circulatory system and thereby halts headaches in their tracks.

Pain is always an indication that there is an underlying issue – drink enough water to ‘rinse’ toxins from your body. Try drinking close to 2.5L a day, though aim for more if you’re exercising or training.

Headaches with neck pain can vary in type and intensity depending on the root cause of the pain. Some of the most common symptoms associated with headaches and neck pain are:

  • Dull headache with tension in the upper portion of the shoulders
  • A vice-like sensation on the temples
  • Severe headache located behind just one eye
  • Neck stiffness along with nausea and/or vomiting
  • Changes in vision
  • Confusion or loss of balance

Some of the most common causes for headaches with neck pain include:

  • Tension headaches caused by the prolonged contraction of neck muscles
  • Exertion headaches caused by poor biomechanics in the neck
  • Vertebral artery dissection or a tear in the inner lining of the vertebral artery
  • Intracranial hypotension or negative pressure within the brain cavity

Most doctors offer pain medication and conventional physiotherapy to treat headaches with neck pain. These treatments will help to reduce the severity and frequency of the pain but they are temporary measures of pain relief as they do not treat the underlying cause of the pain. Kalp  Clinic uses the most advanced diagnostic tools to obtain a definite diagnosis so that the underlying problem can be resolved.

I have been visiting the clinic for the past two years and my experience has been great. Dr. Kant is very knowledgeable and he treats his patients with full dedication and patience. I underwent treatment for my neck and back pain and I got relief after just a few sessions of dry needling. So, I would recommend everyone to visit KALP HEALTH CARE for any kind of physiotherapy treatment.

At the age of 53, a back problem is scary when a doctor tells you that you need 10 days of bed rest or surgery! I went to Kalp expecting the usual steps of physiotherapy, but I couldn't even stand up straight or get out of bed without shooting pain. This is an example of not judging a book by its cover. Dr. Kant is a simple man but a magician when it comes to his treatment. He is passionate and positive about his treatment and knows the human body like the back of his hand. A dedicated team with Dr. Monika and Dr. Rakesh got me on my feet in just 3 days. This is the best treatment I could have asked for!

Dr. Kant and his clinic are excellent in treating muscular and spinal issues - it's very clean and hygienic. Dr. Kant has great understanding and knowledge, quickly reaching to the root of what's wrong and able to provide Relief within a few sessions. I found a solution to my spine problem after seeking treatment from Dr. Kant - I had tried all kinds of treatments before but hadn't been able to find any relief.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lifestyle changes are at least as important as the medications. Very often it is the little things we do that set us up for headaches. In general, migraine sufferers do best when they have a routine. Regular meal times, regular sleep patterns, regular menstrual cycle and regular exercise schedule. Again, there is a lot of variability from person to person, and it is best to discuss your daily and weekly activities with a medical professional skilled in headache management. Very often, modest “tweaking” of lifestyle can result in huge decreases in the frequency and severity of headache.

In most cases, the short answer is yes. It is very unusual to find migraine headaches in someone without any family history of migraine. One very rare form of migraine, called Familial Hemiplegic Migraine has actually be traced to a specific gene, but as yet no gene has been identified for the more common forms of migraine.

There is a group of people who develop migraine-like headaches after significant head trauma, and they may or may not have a family history. Knowing your family history for headaches (not just whether there is one, but what different family member do for their headaches) is one of the most useful pieces of information you can bring to your physician

  • For the vast majority of people, migraine is a genetic disease – it runs in families. It probably represents an overly sensitive response by the brain to changes in the environment (internal or external).
  • When a noxious stimulus reaches the trigeminal – it triggers the release of chemicals called vasoactive peptides that create changes in the diameter of blood vessels in the membrane that lines the brain. It also causes changes in the ability of nerves within particular parts of the brain to fire properly. Finally, it causes the brain to become overly sensitive to sensory input
  • The third question is an individual one and we don’t know why one person’s headache is triggered by red wine and the next person will have an apparently identical headache from strong perfume but never from red wine. This is an area of intense interest among scientists studying headache.

Yes. Migraine should be suspected when children (of any age) go through bouts of crying and crankiness, possibly with vomiting or diarrhea, that happen repeatedly, last for several hours, then falls asleep and is fine upon awakening. Be especially suspicious if one or both parents or other siblings or close relatives also experience migraine. Typically these children will have been to many specialists looking for stomach and other problems before anyone thinks to consider migraine.

At least with respect to migraines, it is a chronic disease. Prevention means paying attention to the things that seem to bring on or worsen headaches and modifying your lifestyle to avoid or minimize them. Often, prevention will include medication or other modalities such as biofeedback or physical therapy to help control the headaches. There is no secret formula that works for everyone, but everyone can positively affect.
