Wisdom of Osteopathy:

“To find health should be the object of the physician. Anyone can find disease.”
“An osteopath is only a human engineer, who should understand all the laws governing his engine and thereby master diseases.” – Dr. Still (founder of osteopathy)

Osteopathy Philosophy:

1. The Body is a Unit:

  • Our body is an intricate whole, not just a collection of parts.
  • The fascia, like a supportive net, connects muscles and organs from head to toe, a fluid mechanism of profound functional significance.
  • Arteries nourish, veins and lymphatic vessels cleanse.
  • Mind, body, and spirit are integral to a person’s well-being.

2. Structure and Function are Interrelated:

  • The function of any body part is shaped by its structure.
  • Abnormal structure leads to dysfunction and vice versa.
  • Structure and function share a dynamic relationship, influencing each other.

3. The Body Possesses Self-Regulatory Mechanisms:

  • Inherent mechanisms regulate the body’s functions, maintaining balance.

4. The Body Has the Inherent Capacity to Defend and Repair Itself:

  • Despite daily exposure to germs, the body’s defenses keep it healthy.
  • The body’s healing power is evident in its ability to repair itself under stress.

5. When Normal Adaptability is Disrupted, Disease May Ensue:

  • Disease may occur when disruptions in normal adaptability overwhelm the body’s capacity for self-maintenance.

Osteopathy is an artful blend of ancient wisdom and modern science, seeking to unveil the body’s inherent capacity for self-repair. Our approach aligns with the philosophies of osteopathic pioneers and founders, such as Dr. Still, who saw the body as an intricate machine governed by its own laws. We, as osteopaths, strive to understand these laws and assist the body in overcoming obstacles to its own healing.
